Cherish Salazar for Thornton City Council
Together, we can build a safer, thriving, and more connected Thornton—a city we can all be proud to call home.

Putting Community First
As a dedicated advocate for South Thornton, Cherish Salazar has worked tirelessly to protect our neighborhoods, enhance our outdoor spaces, and champion the needs of our community, including addressing water contamination in Niver Creek and securing better infrastructure and parks. Cherish believes that when we invest in our local economy by supporting high-quality jobs and small businesses, we create a Thornton that’s equitable, prosperous, and welcoming to all. This is our home and we deserve to see tangible results in our streets, schools, and our everyday quality of life.

Safe Streets, Strong Communities, A Better Thornton
Cherish Salazar has proudly called Thornton home since 1988. As a mother of two daughters and a grandmother to six wonderful grandchildren, Cherish has a deep commitment to family and community. Her journey of service began with 16 years as a dedicated Girl Scout volunteer, where she first discovered the joy of helping others. This passion grew into a broader role as a community leader, advocating for meaningful change and improvements within Thornton.

A Lifelong Dedication to Community
Cherish works in early childhood education, helping families secure the childcare they need to keep working and thriving. Her work in this field not only shaped her dedication to serving others but also gave her firsthand insight into the importance of strong community support systems.
Proven Leadership: With years of hands-on community service, Cherish has tackled real issues, from water contamination to neighborhood safety.
Dedicated Advocate: A lifelong Thornton resident, Cherish understands the unique challenges and dreams of our community. Right now South Thornton generates a significant share of our city’s revenue, yet does not receive a fair share of our dollars back in improvements. Cherish will work toward parks, sidewalks and roads that are overdue for repairs.
Future-Focused: Cherish will fight for housing affordability, so families aren’t forced to leave Thornton. She will work to ensure public safety and keeping every neighborhood safe. She will work for vibrant community spaces from parks that are clean and inviting to local business hubs that attract new high-quality jobs and opportunities.
Strengthening Thornton’s Roots
Cherish and her husband, Adam enjoy traveling and exploring new places, which has deepened their appreciation for the vibrancy and diversity of Thornton. As a candidate for Thornton City Council in Ward One, Cherish brings a wealth of experience, dedication, and a heartfelt commitment to making Thornton an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.
